Three Ways to Make Your Instagram Content Stand Out

Oct 29, 2021

Ahhhh marketing. It’s one of those essential pieces to being a business owner that some of us love.. And well, some of us hate. Regardless of where your relationship status is with marketing, we can probably both agree that it is crucial to give your social media marketing strategy a little extra love. In the digital age with social media being a part of literally every one’s daily life, it’s not only important to put your business on social platforms to be accessible to new people, but to also do the work that will draw leads from your ideal clients!

The really hard part that I hear from a lot of spray tan artists, is knowing where to even start or how to position yourself online in a way that makes you stand out to your dream client without getting lost in endless scrolling. And what about that thing called the “algorithm?” Yes, it can be confusing and a whole LOT of work to stay on top of these types of things when you’re also trying to do 2,500 other important things all at the same time. Girl, I HEAR YOU! But I want to reassure you to hopefully ease your mind that you will never know all the things. And that’s totally okay! You don’t need to know allllll the things as long as you're committed to taking action and continuing your journey of learning.

However, I would really love to help you on this learning journey by dropping some sick knowledge about how you can make your Instagram content stand out!

What content to post

Remember when I said it can be hard to know where to even start? This is quintessentially what I mean. I’ve noticed a lot of glow bosses struggle specifically with what content they should even be posting on their page to draw people in or get people to interact with them. A good rule of thumb is to always provide content that does AT LEAST one of three things: Educates, Entertains, or Inspires.

Educating your audience positions yourself in a seat of authority. By providing knowledge about your industry, you are now the “expert” in the situation. That, in turn, fosters trust among the people who are looking to you to give them a great service. So put on your glasses, get out your piece of chalk, and start brainstorming ideas on how you can school your audience.

Entertainment is of no shortage on the interweb. A lot of people go to the internet and use their social media primarily to be entertained. What I always try to remind myself is that people remember how something makes them feel. And if something makes someone feel good, they’re more likely to share it with others. People are generally wired to spread love, kindness and good vibes, my friend. So if you’re able to get a laugh out of someone, they’ll not only be more likely to remember that you’re entertaining and funny.. But also share your content that will then help you get more eyes on your page. Win, Win, annnddd.. Win!

Inspiration. It’s one of those things that’s very interesting because there’s a part of everyone that feels a need to be inspired by something. That’s why there are whole instagram accounts based off of inspirational posts. So as a spray tan artist, how do you convey inspiration on your feed? My advice is to just post what inspires you! You want to attract like-minded people to walk through your doors… or slide into your DMs saying “girl, I need to book with you!” Those like-minded people will most likely be your dream client. What speaks to you, will 9 times out of 10, also speak to the audience you’re wanting to attract. If you’re inspired by taking care of your body and living a holistic life, go that route! If you’re inspired by the Law of Attraction and how it can help you achieve your dreams, share that!

Keep it really real

Instagram is no stranger to accounts purely showcasing highlight reels and all the good ol’ times without any of the “bad,” or rather, real times. There’s a lot of reasons why that’s not a positive thing, but mostly because people buy from other people. More specifically, people buy from people they can relate to. How do you be relatable, you ask? Just. Be. You. That’s all you have to do. It’s that simple. If you’re going to show the good, then you should also show the bad, ugly, and messy too. Because psst, guess what? All of those parts of your life that you’re afraid people will judge you on because you’re not perfect (as if that’s a real thing) are also parts of other people’s lives too.

Great ways to keep it real on the Gram include:

  • posting behind the scenes, #bts,  on your stories or on your feed
  • showing people a day in the life of a business owner. If you mess up and spill spray tan solution all over your kitchen floor, share it!
  • If you’re having a rough day because it’s 2021 and you don’t feel like you’re never doing enough in any area of your life, talk about it to your followers.

 Sell aspiration

Now I know what you’re thinking… didn’t you just tell me to keep it real? Yes, I sure did. But as much as you should keep your content relatable, it’s also important to show images that people aspire to. I know it can be difficult to get photos of your work when you’re concentrated on making the best experience for your clients during appointments. Not to mention, not everyone will feel comfortable with you taking photos of their body. A few things you can do to get content that has your audience say to themselves “I NEED that!” is to set up an agreement with a model, a past client, or someone you know that will allow you to spray them in exchange for you taking photos of them for your page. OR you could go the extra mile and hire models and then do a complete photoshoot to advertise your work. Doing these sorts of things will allow you to curate content that supports your brand image.

Whew, that was a lot! But I, at least, hope that it was helpful in giving you an idea on how you can come across as a glow boss on Instagram, and not just in real life!
